Las Vegas would like you to know all is forgiven — at least, unofficially.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority launched a campaign over the weekend to let tourists know that what happens here still stays here, and one lucky day out of the year the city will even forgive its visitors for their wild antics with an “official” pardon.
The LVCVA has been tweeting since Valentine’s Day encouraging visitors to “throw caution to the wind” and share their wild Vegas stories with the hashtag#VegasPardon.
“Having Valentines regretsies? Tweet the deets on Presidents Day with #VegasPardon and get a full presidential pardon,” one tweet said. On Monday morning, those flying out of McCarran International Airport had the opportunity to get an official pardon and snap a photo with a man apparently dressed up like George Washington but who resembled a member of Parliament.
Some of those flying out of McCarran tweeted about their Vegas Pardon andposted photos to social media, most sharing harmless stories about having too much to eat or drink over the weekend.
Things got a bit cheeky when Chelsea Clinton, who spoke in Las Vegas on Sunday about LGBT and women’s rights, tweeted about being grateful on President’s Day for the service of her father and Pres. Barack Obama.
“We don’t know everything you did in Vegas, but we’ll give you a presidential pardon #VegasPardon,” came the response from @Vegas, the official Twitter account of the LVCVA.
